The Great Basin Jazz Camp Jazz Workshop for Band Directors is a five-day intensive training session for junior high to college-level band directors who may not have had an opportunity to learn concepts and skills in jazz during their music education training in college. Many college conducting and methods classes omit this critical training for their future band directors who, more often than not, face preparing and presenting an instrumental and/or vocal jazz ensemble. Additionally, most band directors have little or no experience dealing with the role and concepts of the instruments of the jazz rhythm section. This workshop will offer a discreet and specialized opportunity to get your “jazz chops” up to speed. Upon completion of this workshop, participating band directors can earn three contact hours of upper division re-certification credit from Idaho State University. Each day’s classroom and observation activities are equal to 55 hours for the week.

The Camp will run concurrent with the 4th Annual Great Basin Jazz Camp at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls from July 12th to July 16th 2010.

The exact itinerary for each day will be determined as the 2010 camp draws closer, but the classes and activities will address the following topics:
